Back to School, back to the battles

With the end of summer, many parents are dreading the beginning of the school year. They know that their child is struggling and are unsure how to help them.  It is important for children to like school so that they learn. If every day is a struggle for your child, they are less likely to learn. Eventually, children can shut down and avoid even trying because it is too defeating to try their best and to always fail. Failing a task is part of learning, but if you can’t get past the failing stage it may be time to see what the road blocks are.  Look through your child’s report cards. Do you see a pattern in either grades or behaviour? Have teachers indicated directly or indirectly that your child may have a learning disability? The longer it is ignored, the more struggles your child will endure. Imagine if through the identification of a learning disability, your child was allotted more time to complete tests or assignments. This could make a world of difference for your child.
