The importance of updating Psychoeducational Assessments
It is important to have an updated psychoeducational assessment for your son or daughter as they head off to college or university. This means it should not be older than 3 years old. It needs to have a clear diagnosis and specific suggestions/recommendations for accommodations. An IEP does not qualify your child for accommodations. It can be very stressful for a student to arrive at a large institute and to try to navigate the system to access the accommodations that they took for granted in secondary school.
Help them start the year off on the right foot.
Have the assessment completed the summer before they leave for school. It can be very discouraging to have paid tuition and fail classes because the correct support was not documented and provided. They can take their up to date assessment with them to school, present at student services and have everything in place for when mid-terms start.
